10 signs you built your entire identity on things you could lose tomorrow

Too many men build their self-worth around what they earn, own, accomplish and provide. It works until it doesn't. Here are 10 signs you may be making this devastating mistake.

Too many men build their self-worth around what they earn, own, accomplish, and provide.

It works until the job disappears, the money slows down, the relationship ends, or somebody more successful walks into the room.

Here are 10 signs you may be making this devastating mistake.

1. When someone asks what you like about yourself, you list what you’ve accomplished.

You can explain what you’ve done. You struggle to explain what makes you a good person.

2. A bad month at work makes you feel like a failure as a man.

You didn’t simply miss a goal. Your entire opinion of yourself changed.

3. You feel guilty when you are not producing something.

Rest feels lazy because being useful is how you prove you deserve your place.

4. You need people to need you.

Being loved feels uncertain. Being depended on feels safer.

5. Providing is the only way you know how to show love.

You can pay the bill, solve the problem, or handle the crisis. But being honest, affectionate, or emotionally present feels much harder.

6. You feel threatened by men who have more than you.

Their money, body, title, confidence, or relationship makes you question your own value.

7. You stay in places where you are miserable because the title looks impressive.

You would rather be admired for your life than actually enjoy it.

8. You hide anything that could make you look unsuccessful.

You would rather struggle alone than let anyone see that you do not have everything handled.

9. You cannot imagine who you would be without your role.

Take away the business, the relationship, the money, or the person who depends on you, and you are not sure what remains.

10. You have spent years becoming impressive without becoming known.

People respect what you have built. But very few people know the man underneath it.

The problem is not wanting success.

The problem is building your entire identity on things that can be taken from you.

Because if losing your job, money, status, body, or relationship would make you feel like nobody, you never built self-worth.

You built a résumé.

  • identity
  • self-worth
  • success
